Ok, I have to admit something. Well, several things actually. I am a slacker. I am lazy. I dislike exercise. None of those things are really true, but we all feel like saying that sometimes. I promised myself that I would be in shape when our local fitness center opens up. Well, I went past it today and it is making much more progress than I am. It is supposed to open in January and here I sit, still in my size 16 jeans, still weighing 170, still telling myself "just one more handful of peanuts, you need the fiber". Part of my reluctance to ramp up my methods to lose weight is the fact that (and don't get me wrong here) I look pretty darn good. For the most part, that is. I still have good skin, even though it is a bit looser than it used to be... and I still have good hair and am digging on the silver... and a good sense of humor. I laugh all the time. I have always been slightly overweight. I'm used to being chubby and I'd rather be sitting down doing art, or blogging or reading than I would be out hiking. I do love to putter around in my back yard, but it's a Catch-22... I have to be so careful because I am out of shape. One wrong reach and your back hurts. Then you are hesitant to even go back down there. You all know what I'm talking about.
Anyway, the reason for the title of this post is this. I recently realized that while I am sitting on the couch at night with the hubby, watching The Match Game reruns and laughing like a nut, that I have been using my "spare tire" for an arm rest. You know that area, just below the bust line? Well, I find that I cross my arms in front of me and nestle them under aforementioned bust line and rest my arms on my spare tire. This is not good. I do not want to have an arm rest under my bust line. This will not do.
Am I alone in this?

I can relate about being complacent because my DH says I have a nice shape, but I know I need to lose...my knees and my jeans tell me so. And I so know what you are talking about with being afraid to hurt my back, or knee, or shoulder. And I really do hate exercising. But I have to admit that since I have started working out I feel stronger and it feels pretty good.
I think we are alike in that it would be easy to accept where we are at, and no one would fault us...except for us.
But I do disagree with you about one thing. You do not look pretty darn good.
You are a Beauty!! Really. :-)
Hi! I just came across your blog and am feeling a little re-inspired. Your words could be my words... I started a weight loss blog in Jan and did great until I just stopped trying. Couldn't tell you why I stopped. And here I am, on the verge of miserable yet again. It's SO EASY to think that I look 'ok' even though the muffin top is back with a vengance.
Anyhoo... thanks for letting me vent a little! I wish you luck on your journey!
Blessings, Kimberly
Thanks for your visit Susan (on stress-free randomness...)
I just wanted to let you know that I've made a commitment to start a running and eating program. My girlfriend did a boot camp and has stuck with it an extra 4 weeks so far... I'm encouraging her to do weight watchers with me if she shows me the ropes at the track. Add our new wii fit to the mix and I'm hurting pretty good today.
But I'm down a pound and a half!
ha ha! The word code thingy below says 'heater'! How appropriate!
I am laughing out loud here!!! Because you are NOT alone. At first I thought you were writing about ME. I have been at a stand still on my weight and my hubbie has lost 10 pounds in the past week. But to be fair, he has been counting his calories & threw out his chocolate. WHICH IS UNHEARD OF FOR HIM.
I am not totally unhappy with my weight but agree about needing to get into shape & still lose at least 10 more pounds. I have been walking every night & I don't eat anything after about 7:30 p.m.
