Just one quick post, I have been doing the No Flour, No Sugar program for one week and I am back down to 172 pounds. This is my lowest since October. All I have done is avoid anything that has any type of sugar (you regular dieters know all the culprits) and anything that has flour or any type of flour ingredient in it. I have been watching portion size also. The premise is that, as we know, sugar has no nutritional value and is therefore, empty calories. Well it seems that refined flour of any kind (wheat, rice flour, soy flour, oat flour...) is the same on the G.I. (glycemic index) as table sugar. That's a good enough reason for me.
Have a great Sunday, be thankful and grateful and tell you family you love them.
Take care.

I like this book
At the risk of sounding like I try everything that is written, I thought I would use this book as a guideline for ridding my diet of sugar and flour. I have been thinking of doing this for some time and I like Dr. Gott's take on it.
It is actually quite simple, remove anything with any kind of flour or any kind of sugar from your diet. Combine that with portion control, moderate exercise and other healthy choices and you are bound to feel better.
That's my take on things for today. Take care.

It's a warming trend...
We are taking part in the current "cold snap". It has warmed up to 7 degrees. If you are like me, you want to reach for the comfort food during the winter. I have done this several times lately and the scales are up 2 pounds.
I know that I am an emotion eater. I snack mindlessly when I'm bored or when I reading. I learned to eat while I read by reading the back of the cereal box on the kitchen table. I'm not saying that if Mom had put away the box after pouring our cereal, I would not be overweight...I'm just pointing out how easily unhealthy habits can be started and how early they start.
When I stayed with my grandmother as a child, if I was bothered by something, she gave me money to go get fudge Popsicles at the little store at the corner of our street. Then she had a nervous breakdown and they sent me (at seven years old) to stay with her. Both of my unmarried uncles lived with her and worked out of town and I guess I was supposed to call someone if Gram had a "spell". All I know is that by the time I went back home to my mom at age twelve, I was at least 30 pounds overweight. Short version of this story is I was an overweight child, and it really wasn't my fault, but that's how I learned to be an emotional eater.
On another subject, my hubby has been having pretty bad stomach and back pain for several months now and I finally got him to the doctor. Then off for x-rays and ultrasound. They called yesterday to say we need to set up an appointment for a surgeon, as he has gallstones and a hiatal hernia.
He is not going to agree to surgery without looking into all other alternatives. I could insist that he have the surgery, and he probably will, but any real life input would be appreciated here. I had a boss that almost died when his bile duct got blocked with a stone, but I can't remember enough of the specifics to be able to use this as a reason to convince hubs to have the surgery.
That's it for now, remember to check my other blog this week, as I will be putting up some new art soon. Take care and stay warm.

The first full week of the new year...
First off, I want to say Hello to all my bloggie friends. Hello and thanks for hanging in there and keeping up with me even when I don't have a loss of "poundage".
I got my second issue of Fitness magazine this week, haven't had a chance to read it completely, though. Does anyone want to confess up to sending it to me? I want to think that it is being sent by a well meaning friend, that chooses to remain anonymous, but I would have preferred getting a card saying it was sent by a friend, then not knowing. On the other hand, the paranoid (admit, it you have one, too) portion of my psyche thinks it was sent by a person that has gotten disgusted with me for not losing my weight, or for never changing the habits that she knows is causing my size to stay the same. Well, if that is who sent it...B-O-O, H-O-O.

(Sorry new readers, don't get scared, I'm not really a mean girl...I just vent sometimes. ) Speaking of not losing my weight, I haven't gained any either. If fact, I have been wearing the same size clothing for about five years now. I know that the size that I currently wear, is to cover a butt that is at least 3 sizes too big. I wear about a size 14/16 pants and would look smashing if I were wearing a size 12.
I've been told that a size 12 is considered plus sized in the modeling industry. Can you believe that? Yikes, wonder what those folks really think of us real sized women? I bet they think we are dirty and stinky and slobs. No, seriously, that's what some folks think of people that aren't slim. I have a friend, my age, that is very well-off. She has tried having a personal trainer, gone to spas, had wraps and lots of things, but she just pretty much stays the same size. Other than slightly elevated cholesterol levels, she seems to be fairly healthy. She is about 100 pounds over what would be considered the best weight for her. She is a computer/techno geek type, that doesn't put a lot into her clothing budget, although she can afford to. She thinks if a person doesn't like her because of how she looks, they aren't worth knowing.
You would not believe how she is treated when people don't know how wealthy she is. They treat her like she is repulsive to them. If they do find out that she could buy them and their boss several times over, then they treat her like a queen. Sad state of affairs.
Long way around to remind us to treat people with respect. If we aren't in the same group as a certain person, or we don't like the way they dress, that doesn't mean we have to hang out with them, but it certainly would not hurt to be nice.
Well, that's it for today. Take care, try to read labels, eat healthy and exercise your mind and your body. I care about you.

Whew, glad that's over...
As some of you know, I did a little rant about the holidays. Well, we had a very nice Christmas. We visited some friends and some came by our place. I was the classic enabler all week long, in that I baked homemade cinnamon rolls and repeatedly convinced myself and my hubby that "just one more" would be OK.
I sometimes don't realize how much what I do and say affects my hubby. When we met twenty one years ago, we both weighed the same. He at 5'9" was way too thin, me at 5'4" was a little thin for my frame, but still pretty good. I decided that I needed to fatten him up and in the process and over a period of 20 years, we are both fattened up quite a bit. He had a very physically demanding job (building houses) and was able to burn off lots of extra calories. Over the years, his job has changed several times, quitting the construction business to devote more time to his music and then he went back to school and got a degree in computers. My weight went up as his did, but now for the first time ever, he outweighs me by eight to ten pounds.
As you know, sitting at a computer doesn't burn a lot of calories and now that I am home full time, we are just not active enough. We aren't runners or hikers and we don't have a dog or any children to run after, and we have just settled in more than in our younger days.
The title of my blog here is "Let's lose the weight this year" and I still think it's a great title. I think we, as life long dieters, think things should happen faster than they do. That's why I am choosing a one year goal for us. I still want to lose weight, but I really do want to make some life changes that will lead to better aging and staying healthier in general.
Sorry for this super long post, what I really wanted to tell you is that I came across a cookbook by Prevention magazine that is so good. It is called Eat Up and Slim Down. It uses real food and gives you tools to decide what eating plan is best for you. This led me back to Prevention's web page, which has all kinds of good ideas on it.
I will be using some of the new recipes in this book (which I got at the library) and implementing better portion control into my meals. We eat in front of the television in the living room and that's probably not going to change. For this reason, portions that are dished up in the kitchen have to be reasonable. If we want seconds, you have to go back to the kitchen and get our own. This can sometimes be a bit embarrassing, so I am hoping proper portion control will show us how much too much we were eating.
The other thing I am going to try to do, is not be a slave to the scales. This is really difficult for me, but I think it is important to, at least, try.
So, if you want to call these resolutions, feel free. I think setting and working on achieving goals is a very important part of a healthy lifestyle.
That's it for now, I may be back later with a New Year's post, but if not, take care and stay safe.

I like this picture so much that I am posting the same thing on both blogs. Hope you don't mind.
Yes, it's finally here. Soon the holidays will be over. I'm thinking about taking a few days off from posting, but I'll still be lurking and skulking around reading your blogs and maybe stopping in to say hi and I hope you'll do the same. In the meantime, I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and leave you with our official family portrait for Christmas 2008.
I think you will agree from this picture, that I have good reason to be thankful for being able to spend the last 21 Christmases with this wonderful man. So from one of the happiest and most grateful couples you know, we say Merry Christmas to you all. Whether you have friends and family to visit, or just fond memories of them, enjoy yourself and be mindful of the reason for this wonderful holiday.Merry Christmas!!!

Christmas Time's A-Comin'
Yes, it's almost here and I'm not quite so Scrooge-y today. I talked to my sisters in CA, yesterday and my brother in law from WV this morning, The brother in law might come for a quick visit, so I don't feel so much like we are hermits with nobody to love us.
I weighed in at 175 today and I'm not going to go on and on about what I do wrong, etc. I was somewhat surprised with I got my first issue of Fitness magazine yesterday. I didn't order it. Now I have to wonder where that came from and was it well meaning, or just a scam or what. If I get a bill, I can eliminate the scam scenario. If not, well who know?
That's all for now, thanks to those that commented with such kind words to my grumpiness. I appreciate it. Take care and have a great holiday!
